We Are The Church: A Responsive Reading

I wrote this responsive reading for the first in-person worship service of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church where vaccinated volunteers will co-create the worship experience (Wednesday June 2, 7:00) to be broadcast for the benefit of the whole congregation (Sunday, June 6. 11:00 am.) Feel free to adapt it for the needs of your church, congregation, synagogue, mosque, temple, meeting house, society or organization.

We are the young mother with a high risk pregnancy who cannot get the vaccine.

We are the church!

We are the single person who has been living in isolation for over a year.

We are the church!

We are the parents whose children are too young for the vaccine.

We are the church!

We are the empty nesters longing for companionship.

We are the church!

We are the newly vaccinated teenagers eager for youth groups.

We are the church!

We are the teens not old enough to be vaccinated.

We are the church!

We are the eldery in nursing homes longing for visitors.

We are the church!

We are the health care professionals and frontline workers, weary and in need of rest.

We are the church!

We are the ones who have been resting in place bursting with energy

We are the church!

We are the ones who want to be able to sing together again.

We are the church!

We are the members of the small group ministries longing to reunite.

We are the church!

We are immunocompromised.

We are the church!

We are the infants born this year.

We are the church!

We are the memories of those who died this year.

We are the church!

We are those celebrating new freedoms.

We are the church!

We are those grieving our losses.

We are the church!

We are the ones who are together in our building at this moment.

We are the church!

We are the ones watching online.

We are the church!

We are the ones committed to building a free faith where no one is left behind.

We are the church!
